The Laboratory for Climate and Ocean-Atmosphere Studies (LaCOAS) studies the present, future, and past climates, the links between ecosystems and climate and between civilizations and climate, with special focus on the role of the global oceans. The lab uses observations and coupled climate models (atmosphere, ocean, land, sea ice) to address regional, continental, and global-scale problems that are linked to environmental, societal, and policy issues. LaCOAS also take the responsibility of teaching undergraduates and graduates and spreading the idea that the ocean plays a great role in mankind's activities. 气候与海洋研究组（CORP）的研究方向集中在大洋环流的基本动力过程、海洋与大气之间的相互作用以及海-气耦合系统在从年际到千年时间尺度上的气候变率。因为海洋的巨大热容量，海洋对时间尺度较长的全球及区域气候变化起着关键作用。如厄尔尼诺-南方涛动、太平洋年代际振荡、北大西洋涛动以及大西洋热盐环流百年-千年振荡等等。这些模态的演变机理以及如何预测它们的演变也将是我们的研究内容。我们还将研究近岸和区域海洋环流以及它们与海岸带生态环境系统的相互作用，海洋在全球碳循环中的作用，海气相互作用在灾害性天气系统如台风中的作用等等。
